Breaking Political Stories and Commentary. "We're at the height of the Roman Empire for the Republican Party, but the tide slowly but surely goes out." --Republican US Senator Lindsey Graham, South Carolina
Okay, I know one thing you've all been wondering about is what music blogic listens to, when he's not spewing hate about Republicans.

You might be surprised. Oh sure, I spend my weekends listening to Moaist Cultural Revolution Music, and blogging wouldn't be the same without inspiring Brezhnev's Music of the Vanguard in the background, but none of that works so well for jogging.

Presumably my music tastes reveal something about me. My wife says mine reveal I have terrible taste, but hey, my party music is consistently more popular than her's. As I've told her: I may have truly crappy music tastes, but I have the same crappy tastes as everyone else.

Jogging in NYC while singing along to songs can be an intensely embarrassing experience. Typical of this was when, a few months ago, I found myself next to a this-guy-must-be-made-in-the-mafia guy, probably from Queens, singing "let's make love tonight" from the song "Sexual Healing". Ugh. He didn't look interested, either. So I was both embarrassed and offended.

Anyway, here's the music I'm currently listening to:

1. "What More Can I say" by Jay-Z and the Beatles. Rap. I'm not making that up. It's on the "Black Album" mix by "DJ Dangermouse"

2. "Self Control" by Laura Brannigan (who recently died). Eighties. My obsession with this song marked my cross into pop adulthood. I forced my mom to listen to it. She wasn't impressed and I'm still embarrassed
decades later.

3. "I'm Going Down" by Bruce Springsteen. Eighties. The most depressing uptempo song I know. I used to play it on the jukebox when my highschool best friend and I got icecream after playing games at the local video arcade. Oh, fond memories of Telegraph Ave in Berkeley.

4. "Paul Meets Chani" by Toto. From the Dune soundtrack. How weird is it that Toto did the somber instrumental Dune soundtrack? This track is pretty moody. I listen to it when I sense impending doom.

5. "Love's Recovery" by the Indigo Girls. When I'm feeling moody, I can listen to this over and over. Even when jogging. I saw IG during my Summer of Concerts, back in 1991 or so.

6. "Bonnie and Clyde '03" by Jay-Z and Beyonce. Or maybe "Me and My Girlfriend". Hip-hop. One of a small number of songs I strongly associate with my wife. It's a very sweet song, and means that Jay-Z controls two of my tracks.

7. "On Earth As It Is In Heaven". Mission soundtrack (the movie). Main theme. Last summer, my wife and I went to the Brazillian waterfalls where some of that movie was filmed. No, I didn't go over the falls tied to a cross. Was only slightly tempted.

8. "What a Feeling". Flashdance soundtrack. Irene Cara. Eighties. This is a guilty pleasure. This is a terrible song. Sample lyric: "What a feeling (I am music now), bein's believin' (I am rhythm now)". Ugh.

9. "Let's Get It Started" by the Black Eyed Peas. Hip-hop. Great party song. Another song that causes me to jog in place next to middle aged men embarrassingly singing "let's get it started".

10. "Elk Hunt" on the Last of the Mohicans soundtrack. This is a tense strings piece. I imagine I'm tracking Republican Convention delegates through the brush of Manhattan Island.

11. "Nasty Girl" by Nitty. I'm telling you, this is the best summer anthem in years. Too bad it didn't, er, play during most of the summer.

12. "Jurassic Park Theme. Well, it's the main theme from the soundtrack. One of the pieces I associate with New York City at it's most silver and shiny. Along with "Planet Krypton" from Superman. Okay, very embarrassing.

13. "Wonder Woman" from the Wonder Woman television series. Wow, this just gets worse. Well, at least it's short. Has an cool explosion at the start. Also has hilarious lyrics: "Make a hawk a dove / Stop a war with love / Make a liar tell the truth". Hmm, strangely timely. Also, Lynda Carter is still hot. blogic ducks Mrs. blogic's thrown book.

14. "Sister Christian" by Night Ranger. Eighties. Only rediscovered this when putting music together for a party. I always used to sing "Motorcade" instead of "motoring". Lesson: blogic was more into politics than he was into coolness, popularity, or dating.

15. "Going the Distance". The Rocky soundtrack. Well, this is a natural. Great track, best of the movie. Played during the montage scene where he runs through Philly and ends up at the steps of the Philadelphia Art Music (I ran up those too!), and during the climatic fight
scene.

16. "Starblazers" theme. From the beginning of the anime show. This was a great show, or at least seemed so back in the day. My wife loves to say "Hurry Starblazers, you have only [some-hundreds-number<365] days left!" That won't make sense unless you've seen the show. They're saving Mother Earth, after all.

Well, looking at it, my music is kind of freakish. I guess this was an uncomfortable experience for all.

What do you listen to when you're doing stuff? Do you listen to different types of music for different types of activities? Anyone with music tastes as bad as mine?"

If I was going to jog to music it would have to be Laibach, Guitar Wolf, Atari Teenage Riot, or something else that is charged with beats and gets your body movin'.

Try the song Believe by Anne Potente from the Lola Rennt (Run Lola Run) Soundtrack.

Last choice is awesome, I loved the Starblazers anime.

At the moment I'm liking Modest Mouse's "The View" or Frenzal Rhomb's "I miss my lung" for exercise. If you're not inspired to move from hearing the beat in The View then something's wrong - consult a mortician. And Frenzal's always a good inspiration.

The song "Superholic" by Engine is fantastic running music. But I have to admit, my music tastes aren't nearly so varied as yours.
