Breaking Political Stories and Commentary. "We're at the height of the Roman Empire for the Republican Party, but the tide slowly but surely goes out." --Republican US Senator Lindsey Graham, South Carolina
I just got back from the debate party. I thought both candidates demonstrated that America wouldn't be alone in the war against terror. Both candidates made mistakes. Kerry emphasized the need to work with other democracies, and probably should have emphasized that we didn't have to work with them (although he did say that he believed in an America that should take action alone if necessary). Meanwhile, Bush seemed to fall back on one answer -- that Kerry is too nuanced -- too often, but he showed a consistency of being on message.

Bush demonstrated the on-message focus that has distinguished him, while Kerry demonstrated that he could serve capably as President.

What did you think? How did your friends see this? Any surprising insights? Anyone change his or her mind?

One point I'll quickly make is that Kerry really didn't make himself distinct and removed from Bush, instead he was adapting a me too additude.
